A new play and participation project which is itself a call to action – a celebration of how direct collective action can transform our relationship with the natural world in a time of climate crisis and distorted boundaries between work and leisure.
In 1932, over 400 people participated in a mass trespass on Kinder Scout, led by a group of young Jewish Communists from Manchester. At the peak, they met the Sheffield contingent of trespassers, who were already there – before clashing with gamekeepers.
Today, access to nature is still a site of stark inequality: we have freedom to roam on just 8% of land in England, and only 3% of rivers. Only 1 in 8 households in England have a garden, and if you’re Black then you’re nearly 4 times as likely to have no outdoor space at home. Access to natural space is a public health issue.
